Oudrup; cover, cost and conditions
The name belongs to Lars Oudrup, a Danish designer of sailing catamarans. In the late seventies he drew the Havcat 27, which went into a small Danish production run from 1979, with twin daggerboards and meant for coastal and offshore cruising. The My-Cat followed in 1985 as a design for a small racing class, a boat that sails faster than the wind and easily passes 20 knots. Its slim hulls with U-shaped sections are solid laminate below the waterline and sandwich above it. The mast beam is solid vinylester laminate, while the fore and aft beams are made from aluminium mast sections. Hung rudders, centreboards and a self-tacking jib let it handle like a dinghy.
Our model records list three designs, all sailing catamarans. The Havcat 23 measures 7 metres and is recorded from 1982 to 1989, and the Havcat 36 reaches 11 metres and runs from 1982 to 1990. Between them sits the My-Cat at 7.95 metres, listed from build year 1982 through to 2007 and by some distance the longest-running line. None of the three continues into the most recent build years. The Havcat 27 known from the literature does not appear in our list. Anyone sailing an Oudrup catamaran today has a boat from a small series with decades on the water behind it.
A light, fast catamaran rewards careful upkeep. The beam joints are the first thing to inspect: look at where the aluminium beams meet the hulls and check fastenings and laminate for cracks. Daggerboards and rudders take knocks in shallow water, so their cases and bearings deserve a close look on a used boat. Sandwich topsides should be checked for soft spots, especially around fittings. On a My-Cat that has been raced, the rig and the self-tacking jib track will have worked hard. Because the hulls are slim, weight matters, and a boat loaded with extra gear loses much of what makes it lively.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the My-Cat, Havcat 36, Havcat 23 by Oudrup series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
