Paritet Boats, also known as Paritetboat, has been building glass-bottom boats under the Looker name since the late 1990s. Each has a large moulded acrylic window set into the hull floor, so guests can watch the reef without getting wet. Most go to excursion operators in places like the Maldives and the Seychelles. Most models, the bigger ones in particular, are power catamarans, and an Ellips line sits alongside the Looker.
Our records list 13 Paritet models: ten power catamarans, two motorboats (Looker 17 and Looker 25) and one motor yacht (Looker 30). Eleven are called Looker and two Ellips. Build years start in 2000 with the Ellips 28 and the Looker 17. Five lines run into the latest build years: Ellips 35, Looker 320, Looker 370, Looker 440 GB and Looker 450S. Lengths range from the 5.06 metre Looker 17 to the 14.3 metre Looker 470, and eight models are 10 metres or longer.
A glass-bottom boat has one feature that shapes everything else: the window. Keeping the acrylic clear means soft cleaning gear, no abrasive pads and careful antifouling around the frame. Shallow lagoons are the natural habitat, so skippers learn to read the bottom and avoid coral heads. The catamarans are stable, roomy platforms for day trips with many guests, and they usually stay on a mooring close to the reef.
