RAND builds day boats in Denmark with electric or outboard propulsion, compact, design-led boats between five and nine metres that are used on inland lakes and in sheltered coastal waters. The model range extends from the simple Picnic to the Supreme with a cabin, and values accordingly spread from five-figure to six-figure sums.
In the electric versions the battery is what carries the value and the item that demands charging discipline. Fire and thermal runaway are covered if charging follows the manufacturer's instructions. In the outboard versions its place is taken by the classic subject of engine theft; full hull cover covers it, including theft of the engine on its own, and the engine number belongs in the application.
RAND boats are often kept as a second boat or day boat at a second home and then lie unattended for months. This is the point that should be stated honestly in the application: a boat at an unguarded jetty without regular checks carries a different theft and storm risk than a boat in a supervised marina. Stating it costs little and prevents a discussion about policy obligations in the event of a claim.
