Rayglass Boats; cover, cost and conditions
Rayglass Boats builds fibreglass powerboats in Auckland, New Zealand, with roots going back to 1985, when Tony Hembrow began developing glass boats in Pakuranga. Two families carry the brand. The Legend models are hardtop boats for fishing and family trips, while the Protector rigid inflatables have worked for rescue services and on race courses. Legend names use four digit numbers that roughly give the length in feet times one hundred, while the newer Protectors carry three digit numbers with Chase or Targa added.
Our model records list 29 Rayglass models: 17 RIBs, six motor boats and six models filed as motor yachts. Recorded build years run from 2004 to the present, and 14 models continue into current production. Lengths range from 6.1 to 12.8 metres, with half of them between 7.2 and 11.5 metres. The Legend line runs from the Legend 1950 at 6.4 metres through the Legend 2500 at 7.7 metres to the Legend 4000 at 12.5 metres. The Protector Chase and Targa models from 250 to 410 measure 7.5 to 12.5 metres, and the Protector STD, SL and XL Cabin versions 11 to 12.8 metres.
In New Zealand these boats are towed to the ramp on a Saturday morning and run offshore for snapper or to an island anchorage. Engine hours, the state of the tubes on a Protector and the electronics fitted for fishing weigh heavily in their value, as does whether a Legend has twin or single outboards.

As the Rayglass Legend 2200, Rayglass Legend 2350,
Rayglass Legend 2500 by Rayglass Boats and 11 more series are still in production,
parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Rayglass Protector 6.5 Center Console, Rayglass Protector 8.5 Centre Console,
Rayglass Protector 8.5M Cabin by Rayglass Boats and 12 more series the market value and the
replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Rayglass Legend 2200, Rayglass Legend 2350,
Rayglass Legend 2150 by Rayglass Boats and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Rayglass Legend 2500, Rayglass Legend 2800,
Rayglass Legend 3500 by Rayglass Boats and further series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Rayglass Protector 250 Chase, Rayglass Protector 310 Chase,
Rayglass Protector 310 Targa by Rayglass Boats and further series:
On an inflatable the cause decides, not the damage: a tear from impact is covered,
porous fabric after years in the sun is not.
The outboard belongs in the policy with its serial number.
