ReLine Yachts built steel motor yachts in Steenwijk in the Netherlands. A Dutch broker describes the firm as long known for high quality motor yachts and notes that it ended in 2011. Listings of boats such as the Grand Courage 435 AC show the typical recipe: a steel yacht with an aft cabin, a forward cabin and a sheltered wheelhouse. The names are easy to read once decoded. AC means aft cabin; on the S, SLX and LE models the number is the length in feet, so a 47 SLX is about 14.35 metres; on the Classic line it is the length in centimetres, as with the 1225 AC at 12.25 metres.
Our model records hold 24 ReLine motor yachts dated from 1997 to 2016. The 38 S, 41 S and 46 S open the list in 1997, the SLX trio of 38, 41 and 47 appears in 2000, and the 41 and 47 LE follow in 2007. The Classic and Grand Courage families are equally large with eight models each; the Classic runs from the 10.8 metre 1100 AC to the 13.8 metre 1380, the Grand Courage from the 413 AC at 11.73 metres to the 465 at 14.45 metres. The median length is 12.6 metres. Since the broker gives 2011 as the end of the company, the late dates in the records are worth checking against each boat's papers.
A ReLine is a yacht for canals, rivers, lakes and sheltered coastal water, and most spend the summer on a fixed berth. Every one is now second hand, many more than twenty years old, so the condition of the steel matters more than the model name. Owners haul out in autumn, have the hull measured for plate thickness every few years, and keep an eye on paint, anodes and the areas around windows and deck fittings. Engines, bow thrusters and heating deserve regular service before each season.
