Rhéa Marine builds motorboats in La Rochelle on the French Atlantic coast; the yard was founded by Bertrand Danglade. Its boats come in three lines, Open, Timonier with a wheelhouse, and Trawler, and share a classic look: the optional classic package adds iroko rails, wooden handrails and trim and a wooden wheel. The Rhéa 34 Trawler is built at the La Rochelle site itself. Two naming systems sit side by side. Three and four digit numbers such as 650, 750 or 1100 give roughly the length in centimetres, while the trawlers carry two digit numbers close to their length in feet.

Our model records list 31 Rhéa designs, 15 motorboats and 16 motor yachts. The Rhéa 750 opens the list with build year 1995, and 15 lines are recorded as still in production. Eight models carry the Open suffix, seven Timonier and six Trawler, alongside the 27 Escapade, the 30 Evolution and the 730 Baltic and 730 Rheapala variants. Sizes run from the 6.5 metre Rhéa 650 to the 17.4 metre Rhéa 57 Trawler: ten models sit between 6.5 and 7.5 metres, twelve between 8 and 9.8 metres and nine above that.

The small Open and Timonier boats are light enough to tow, so a slipway at the start of the day is as natural for them as a marina berth. The trawlers from 10.4 metres are berth boats, used for coastal passages and long stays aboard. Iroko trim wants regular oil or varnish to keep its colour, and a winter under cover helps the woodwork as much as the engine.
