Worth knowing
RIS; cover, cost and conditions
Compact inflatable boats ran under this name, all of them boats without a rigid hull. The designation consists of a letter for the range and a number that gives not the length but the place in the line up: the S 2 is the smallest boat and the S 50 stands at the top of the range. You recognise them by the short tapered tube ends, the flat slatted floor and the very simple finish with fitted rowlocks and thwarts. Suffixes such as UL mark lighter versions, D and DINGI the pure tender form and HV the variant with greater buoyancy.
Our model records list 40 models of this brand, all of them soft inflatables. Recorded build years run from 1989 to 2005, so production of these models is closed. Forty series are recorded: the S range with 2, 2 UL, 3, 3 D, 6, 6 D, 6 UL, 9, 15, 18, 25, 40 and 50 HV, and the SH models 10 F, 20 F and 25 F. Lengths run from 2.3 to 6.6 metres, half the models between 2.8 and 4.3 metres. A boat of two and a half metres is a tender for the short run ashore; one of six metres is a boat in its own right.
On an inflatable it is the condition of the fabric rather than the build year that sets the value, since the material ages through sunlight, abrasion and simply through time. All of these models now come from closed production, and on a three metre boat the outboard is usually worth more than the boat carrying it.

For the S 2, S 2 UL, S 3 by RIS and 21 more series the market value and the replacement cost often
differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the RIS 2, RIS 3, RIS 3 DINGI by RIS and 13 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the S 2, S 2 UL, S 3 by RIS and further series: Even without an engine the rule holds:
a tear from impact or vandalism is covered, UV ageing is wear.
