SAS-Vektor d.d.; cover, cost and conditions

SAS-Vektor is a Croatian yard, registered as a joint-stock company for the production of yachts and machinery. The register gives June 1997 as the founding date of the company, while charter listings date its boatbuilding back to 1987. Since November 2017 the company has been in bankruptcy proceedings. Many of its boats now work in Croatian charter fleets, in Zadar and Sukošan among other places. The best-known design is the Adriana 44, a motor yacht of about 13.5 metres with a classic profile, generous wooden trim inside and out and twin diesels, described as nostalgic styling paired with current technology. Alongside it the yard built further motor yachts, the 38 Croline Patrol and a pair of sailing yachts.

Our model records list nine designs: six motor yachts, one motorboat and two sailing yachts. Build years run from 1999 to 2020, and none reaches into the most recent years. The sailing yachts came first: the SAS Vektor 39 at 11.89 metres and the Vector 36 at 11.2 metres, both from 1999 until the mid-2000s. The longest run belongs to the 1002 Adria at 10.8 metres, listed from 2000 to 2020, while the 950 at 9.5 metres runs from 2004 to 2020. The Adriana family has the 36 at 11.82 metres and the 44 at 13.48 metres; the 38 Croline Patrol measures 11 metres, and the smallest boat is the SAS-Vektor 700 at 7.7 metres. The longest figure in the records belongs to the Vektor 960, listed at 22.16 metres.

Many of these boats have spent years in charter, so a used one deserves a close look at engine hours, service records and the wear that comes with weekly changeovers: chafed cleats, tired upholstery, scuffs along the topsides. On the Adriana, the wooden trim is part of the appeal and also the main maintenance job, since teak and varnish need regular care to stay sound. Twin diesels mean two sets of filters, impellers and shaft seals to check. Boats that lived in Croatian marinas see strong sun and warm salt water, so hoses, canopies and antifouling age faster than further north. A sea trial at cruising speed tells more than any brochure.
