Slotta Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Slotta Yachts comes from Gdańsk. The man behind it is Jan Slotta, born in Poland and living in Germany, and the boats were built on the Polish Baltic coast. The yachts are glassfibre cruisers. When the German magazine Yacht tested the Slotta 30, one point stood out: future owners could have a say in how their boat was fitted out, which was unusual in series building at the time. For the Slotta 38 CCS, sales particulars name Frank Neubelt as designer.
Our model records hold five Slotta sailing yachts. The Slotta 30 at 9.15 metres runs from 1993 to 2005, the oldest and smallest design. The Slotta 38 at 11.7 metres follows from 1994 to 2005. After the turn of the century came the Slotta 40 CCS at 12.25 metres, from 2002 to 2008, and the Slotta 31 at 9.3 metres, from 2003 to 2009. Last to appear is the Symphonie 312 at 9.4 metres, listed from 2007 to 2013. None reaches the most recent build years. Three boats sit between 9.15 and 9.4 metres, two between 11.7 and 12.25 metres.
Because owners could influence the fit out, no two Slottas are quite alike, and a buyer should go through the inventory item by item rather than rely on a standard specification. On a glassfibre cruiser of this age, check the hull for osmosis, the keel bolts and the rudder bearings, and look at the age of standing rigging and sails. Engine hours and the state of the saildrive or shaft seal deserve attention too. Below decks, lift the floorboards and look for water in the bilge and at the keel sump, and open lockers along the hull for signs of condensation or leaking deck fittings.
