Sirius-Werft; cover, cost and conditions
The Sirius yard in Plön builds deck saloon yachts between 9 and 12 metres in small series, each yacht fitted out individually, with lifting or swing keel variants for shallow waters and a deck saloon with all-round visibility. It is one of the last German sailing yacht yards with a design department of its own.
With individually fitted-out yachts the valuation is individual as well: it is the fit-out that makes the difference, not the hull length. A survey that records hull, rig, engine, electronics and fit-out separately is the basis of the agreed value. And with the lifting keel the following applies: full hull cover covers grounding damage together with consequential damage to the mechanism, but not wear of the lifting gear, so keep to the service intervals set by the yard.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Why is a survey necessary for individually fitted-out yachts?
Because there is no catalogue price. The value arises from the fit-out, and only a survey that records hull, rig, engine and fit-out separately reflects it.

For a series of this age there is no list price left. That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it, and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides. A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
As the series is still in production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable. Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
