Steiner Nautic; cover, cost and conditions
Steiner Nautic is a boatyard in Mattsee near Salzburg. According to a report in the German magazine Yacht, the family has been building boats for five generations, and its work ranges from traditional clinker hulls through moulded construction to carbon sandwich electric boats. The yard builds in small batches for owners with particular wishes and pairs classic lines with modern sandwich layups. Its boats carry the Steiner name before the model: Jollenkreuzer for the classic inland dinghy cruisers, Free Open for the open sailing boat, Marin and Lightstream for the motorboats.
Our records list six Steiner Nautic models, three sailing boats and three motorboats, all starting in 2018 and running into the latest build years. The Jollenkreuzer 15er and the Free Open 21 both measure 6.5 metres, the Jollenkreuzer 20er 7.75 metres; the number in a Jollenkreuzer class name is its sail area in square metres. On the power side the Lightstream 6.2 Fuel Power is 6.2 metres, the Marin 630 6.3 metres and the Marin 800, the longest boat in the range, 8 metres.
These are boats for Alpine and other inland lakes, raced on club evenings or taken out for a quiet afternoon. A Jollenkreuzer with its centreboard is happy on a buoy or a lakeside berth and comes out by crane in autumn. Hand finished hulls benefit from a dry winter shed, and the motorboats want their batteries or engines prepared before the cold arrives.
