Tecnomar builds motor yachts at Marina di Carrara on the Tuscan coast. The yard was founded in 1987 and since 2009 has belonged to an Italian shipbuilding group which builds and refits yachts there up to large sizes. Its mark is fast, sharply drawn hulls. Large rigid inflatables are also built under the same roof, under the Pirelli name. You recognise the yachts by the very flat silhouette with its sharply cut bow, the narrow horizontal window bands and the superstructure set well aft.
Our model records list 40 Tecnomar models: 28 motor yachts, nine rigid inflatables, two motorboats and one power catamaran. Build years start in 1999 and run into current production. Forty series are recorded: the EVO 80, 120 and 130; the Domus 118; the Nadara 30, 30 RPH, 33 Fly, 40 and 47; the Velvet 36 and 42; the Catamaran C130; a supply vessel; the Lamborghini 63; the Pirelli models 35, 770, 880 Sport, 880 L Edition, 1100 Sport and 1100 Cabin; and the older Madras 20 and 26. Lengths run from 5 to 47 metres, half the models between 16.5 and 35 metres.
Two very different kinds of craft sit under one name here. The rigid inflatables are boats of the familiar size, where the engine carries much of the value and the tube ages on its own clock. The motor yachts are something else: at twenty metres and beyond, a boat is a set of systems as much as a hull, and what it is worth has less to do with its length than with what is fitted inside it.
