Vantare; cover, cost and conditions
Vantare was an American motor yacht brand whose boats were built in Taiwan. The company belonged to Mike Guth, a retired Navy officer. Construction took place at Chung Hwa, and in the late eighties the yachts were sold mainly through dealers in Southern California and Seattle. The first design, the 58, came from naval architect Jack Sarin, with the 64 following soon after. The signature is the cab-forward styling: the pilothouse sits well forward so that the saloon behind it gains as much room as possible. The hulls are fibreglass, balsa-cored in hull and deck, with fibreglass stringers instead of wood. The thinking behind the line was a strong but light yacht that could reach a good speed with fairly small engines and still be economical and seaworthy.

Neither line reaches into the most recent build years, so any Vantare on the market today is at least three decades old. Engine hours and service records come next: exhaust elbows, mounts and cooling systems on engines of this age deserve a close look. Original fuel tanks and wiring from the late eighties should be checked on any yacht of this vintage. The cab-forward layout gives a generous saloon, and the forward helm offers a clear view over the bow when manoeuvring in a marina.
