Worth knowing
WAVE Blue Sp. z o.o.; cover, cost and conditions
WAVE Blue Sp. z o.o. is the company behind Wave Catamarans, a Polish yard set up in 2010 by two businessmen and keen sailors, Jakub Rościszewski and Zbigniew Łodyga. The catamarans are built at the Leonid Teliga shipyard in Szczecin. The first model, the Wave 58, was launched in 2016 as an epoxy sailing catamaran. The Wave 50 came later, drawn by the Polish designer Agnieszka Bona. The yard works on a semi-custom basis, so layout, joinery and furniture can be built to an owner's brief. Reviews tend to single out the distinctive styling of the boats, and on the Wave 50 the living space of more than 160 square metres on a hull of just under 15 metres.
Our model records list three designs, all sailing catamarans and all with build years from 2016. The Wave 50 measures 14.95 metres, while the Wave 58 and the Wave 58 Breeze are 17.65 metres each. All three run into the most recent build years, so the whole range is in production. At just under 15 to just under 18 metres, the brand sits firmly among large cruising catamarans, with no small entry model. The Wave 58 Breeze shares name and length with the Wave 58 and appears in our records as a line of its own. Reviews date the Wave 50 to 2022, whereas our records list it from 2016 like the other two.
A large epoxy catamaran rewards careful ownership. Because each boat is fitted out to order, systems differ from hull to hull, and a buyer should go through the electrical plan, watermaker, generator and battery bank with the paperwork in hand. Check the bridgedeck underside and the joints between hulls and deck for signs of slamming or stress, and look at rudder bearings and saildrive seals on both sides. Two engines mean twice the servicing, so ask for records for each. Boats of this size are built for long passages and liveaboard seasons, so the state of sails, running rigging and deck gear says a lot about how one has been used.
