Xquisite Yachts; cover, cost and conditions

Xquisite Yachts was founded by Tamas and Sarah Hamor, who spent around ten years sailing round the world before starting the company. That experience shaped the X5 Sail, a cruising catamaran of about 50 feet, built by Phoenix Marine Manufacturing in Cape Town, South Africa. It is meant for bluewater passages and built to CE category A. According to the sailing press, the hulls are laid up in vinylester resin, solid glass below the waterline and cored above it. An aluminium mast carries a self-tacking jib and a furling genoa, sailed from a raised helm with electric winches. A watermaker, a generator and digital switching come as standard, which shows how clearly the boat was planned for living aboard.

Our model records list one Xquisite design, the X 5 Sail cruising catamaran, entered from build year 2012 and running into the most recent build years, at 15.71 metres. Other lines of the brand, such as power versions, do not appear in our records. At just over 15.7 metres the X 5 Sail is a large cruising cat that will never see a road trailer and usually stays afloat all year. The press describes an owner's cabin with its own bathroom and several double cabins with heads and showers. The bridgedeck saloon links the two hulls, and the helm sits high with a view over the coachroof.

A catamaran built for living aboard carries a lot of equipment, and each system has its own service needs. When looking at a used X 5 Sail, ask for the logs of the generator and watermaker, check the electric winches and the digital switching, and have the standing rigging inspected by a rigger. Cored hulls and decks deserve a moisture check around deck fittings and hatches. Boats that have crossed oceans often show wear on the trampoline, the bridgedeck underside and the sail track. Owners who keep detailed maintenance records make a buyer's job far easier.

Series by Xquisite Yachts, build years and cover

X 5 Sail

X 5 Sail is a cabin catamaran from Xquisite Yachts, built since 2012.

What this means for the cover

As the X 5 Sail by Xquisite Yachts series is still in production,

parts are available and repair costs are predictable.

Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.

For the X 5 Sail by Xquisite Yachts series:

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,

and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
