ABCO Industries works from the waterfront of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Founded in 1947, the yard now builds welded boats in marine grade aluminium, both to standard designs and to order. Its customers come from fishing and aquaculture, research, pilotage, patrol and search and rescue. The boats show it: bare or painted aluminium hulls, open work decks, consoles and wheelhouses made for rough Atlantic water. The number in each model name is roughly the length in feet, the word after it the job.

Aluminium shrugs off knocks at the dock and on the beach, but it needs the right antifouling and careful attention to anodes in salt water. The Skiffs and the 20 CC tow easily and suit fishing trips and island hopping; the bigger boats are workhorses that stay on a mooring.
