AMT stands for AMT-Veneet Oy of Kontiolahti in eastern Finland. The boats are designed in Finland and built there in two factories. The yard combines hulls of marine-grade aluminium with glassfibre components. The range is grouped by type: bowriders with an open foredeck and seats in the bow, console boats, daycruisers with a small cabin, and a pilothouse with an enclosed wheelhouse. Those types reappear in the letters after the model number, BR for bowrider, DC for daycruiser and PH for pilothouse, which makes the AMT list easy to read once you know the code.
Our model records list 22 designs, 21 motorboats and one motor yacht, the AMT 230 DC. The oldest entries date from 2004: the AMT 170 R, 185 R, 190 BR and 200 DC. Nine designs carry the BR suffix, six the R, three the DC and two the HT, plus one C and one PH. Several also come with an f in the name, such as the 175 BRf, 190 BRf and 190 Rf. The numbers grow with the length: the AMT 150 R is the smallest at 4.5 metres, the AMT 230 BR the largest at 6.9 metres. Fourteen designs stay under six metres, and none reaches seven. Fourteen lines reach into the most recent build years, the 215 PH among them from 2010.
Aluminium is light and tough, which is why it suits boats that are trailed, beached and launched from rough slipways. Its weak point is galvanic corrosion: stainless fittings bolted straight onto the hull, a missing anode or a badly wired battery can eat into the metal over time. On a used AMT check the anodes, the transom around the outboard bracket and the keel strip for dents from beaching. The glassfibre parts want the usual look at gelcoat cracks around cleats and rails. A boat stored on its trailer in a shed through the Finnish winter usually arrives in good shape.
