Albers; cover, cost and conditions
Albers appears in our records as a builder of small leisure boats, with models dating from 1970 to 1991. Our sources do not confirm where the yard was based or when it began, so this page follows the range alone. The brand is easy to spot by its names: most models are named after water birds. Krickente, Moorente, Packente, Stockente and Wildente all end in Ente, the German for duck, and the Kormoran line takes its name from the cormorant. Only a few models break the pattern, the Clipper and Duala motorboats and the Minimo GL 20 sailing boat. All of them are small, light boats of the kind found on lakes, rivers and sheltered coasts.
Our model records list eleven Albers designs: six motorboats, four sailing boats and one motor sailer. The motorboats are the Clipper, Duala, Krickente, Moorente, Packente and Stockente; the sailing boats are the Kormoran III, Kormoran MS 16, Minimo GL 20 and Wildente. The Kormoran Kreuzer is listed as a motor sailer. Length runs from the 3.1 metre Packente to the 6.1 metre Minimo GL 20, and nine of the eleven stay under 5 metres. The Clipper has the earliest build year, 1970, and runs to 1977; the other lines start between 1979 and 1984, and six of them run to 1991.
These are trailer boats in the truest sense: a family car can tow them to a lake for the weekend and back home again. Their age, between 35 and 56 years, means the hull, the fittings and the trailer itself deserve a careful look every spring. The motorboats run small outboards, and on boats like the Packente or the Stockente the engine is often the most valuable part, so it is worth locking it to the transom and taking it home over winter.

and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Duala, Krickente, Packente by Albers and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Kormoran III, Minimo GL 20, Wildente by Albers and further series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
For the Kormoran Kreuzer by Albers series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
