Alunaut OÜ; cover, cost and conditions

Alunaut OÜ builds aluminium boats on the Estonian island of Saaremaa. Its founder, Mark Muru, has been building boats since 1990; the business has traded as Alunaut since 2005 and first built boats to order for Swedish companies before developing a range of its own from 2011. Much of the output goes to law enforcement, rescue services and the armed forces, and Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland are key export markets. The names are easy to read: A marks the larger boats, AC the small ones, CC an open centre cockpit and WH a closed wheelhouse.

Our records list ten Alunaut models, seven motorboats and three RIBs with aluminium hulls. The AC range runs from the 3.9 metre AC-12 through the AC-14 and AC-16 to the two 6.05 metre AC-18 versions, CC and XC. The A range starts with the A6 RIB at 6.5 metres, continues with the A7 RIB at 7.8 metres and ends with three A8 variants: the 8.68 metre WH, the 8.82 metre RIB and the 9.2 metre CC. The A8 boats appear from 2010, the AC-14 from 2011, the AC-12 and AC-16 from 2012 and the A6, A7 and both AC-18s from 2015; all ten run into the latest build years.

Aluminium takes knocks well, but welds, anodes and the transom around the outboard want checking every season, and a freshwater rinse after salt water keeps corrosion at bay. The small AC boats live on trailers and launch from any slipway. The A8 models with wheelhouse are made for long days on open, colder water and are happiest on a marina berth.
