Amberlat Technology; cover, cost and conditions
Amberlat is a Latvian business that has worked with glass-reinforced plastic since 2007 and uses it for two rather different products: boats and flagpoles. The company behind the brand is SIA AMB Baltic, with its office and showroom in Salaspils near Riga. By its own account Amberlat builds both series models and one-off hulls, intended for leisure, angling, water sports and commercial fishing. The boats are sold under the Amber name, and dealers across the border in Lithuania, for example in Vilnius, carry them too. You can usually tell a model by its three-digit number, which for most of the range is close to the length in centimetres. The Amber 430 also stands out for its trimaran-style hull with three keels and foam-filled buoyancy sections.
Our model records list thirteen Amberlat motorboats, running from just under three to just over six metres. The shortest is the Amber 300 at 2.97 metres and the longest the Amber 600 at 6.03 metres. In between come the Amber 310 and 315 at 3.15 metres each, the 360 at 3.6, the 365 at 3.65, the 430 at 4.3 and the 450 at 4.5 metres. Despite their different numbers, the Amber 595 and the Amber 797 both measure 5.95 metres. Three models carry an E in the name: the 360 E at 3.5, the 450 E at 4.5 and the 510 E at 5.1 metres. Nearly every line starts with the 2011 build year, the 510 E joins in 2012 and the 797 in 2014, and all thirteen are still listed today. A sales listing for the Amber 430 quotes an outboard of up to 15 horsepower.
These are compact GRP hulls, and a used one is mostly a question of how it has been handled. Look along the keel line and the bottom for scrapes from beaching and slipways, check the transom where the outboard is clamped, and on the 430 inspect the three keels and the foam-filled sections for cracks or trapped water. Ask for the outboard's service history and check the steering and fuel lines if a console is fitted. Because they are light, many of these boats travel on a trailer and are launched at lakes, rivers and sheltered coastal spots for a day of fishing or a short trip.
