Bond Yachts Sp.zo.o.; cover, cost and conditions

Bond Yachts is a Polish yard. Before it launched the TNT 34 under sail, it had spent around ten years building motor catamarans sold as MotorCat, and before 2000 it also ran a project called Quadcat. TNT stands for The New Trimaran. The boat is ten metres long and sails at 8.5 metres wide, yet a patented mechanism makes it fit for the road: the crossbeams are mounted offset on the main hull and slide upwards and inwards on Teflon surfaces with the help of a winch. In about a minute the beam comes down to 3.9 metres for entering a harbour, and fully retracted it is 2.99 metres. At 2.2 tonnes it can travel on a trailer behind a suitable vehicle with a special permit. Upwind it sets 81 square metres of sail, and below deck there is 1.95 metres of headroom and space for up to five to sleep.

Our model records list three designs: two motor catamarans and one sailing trimaran. The MC 30 is recorded from 2000 to 2009 at 9.1 metres, and the slightly shorter MC 29, at 8.88 metres, follows from 2004 to 2010. The TNT 34 appears from 2009 to 2015 and, at 10.4 metres, is the longest boat from the yard. Build years therefore run from 2000 to 2015, and none of the three lines reaches into recent production. Everything sits between just under nine and just over ten metres. It is a narrow range built around two very different ideas: the powered twin hull and the folding three hull boat for the trailer.

Looking at a used Bond boat means looking at two different kinds of machinery. On a MotorCat the twin engines, their mounts and the drive train in each hull need checking, along with the bridgedeck where the hulls join. On a TNT 34 the folding system deserves the closest attention: the Teflon sliding surfaces, the winch and the locking points should move cleanly and show no cracking around the beam mounts. A trailerable trimaran often travels a lot, so inspect the trailer and ask how the boat has been strapped down. Fast multihulls on shallow water occasionally touch bottom, so the daggerboard and rudder areas are worth a careful look.
