Worth knowing
Citation Boats Inc.; cover, cost and conditions
Citation Boats covers a family of American runabouts and fishing boats whose recorded build years fall almost entirely in the 1980s. The names follow two patterns: early boats carry names such as Capri, Caribbean, Daytona, Freeport, Sunbird or Sprint, while from the mid eighties a number series took over in which the figure is roughly the length in feet times ten. A Citation 190 is about 5.75 metres, a Citation 228 about 6.9 metres. The suffixes describe the layout: BR for bowrider, CC for centre console, Cuddy for a small cabin, XL and XLS for trim versions of the same hull.
Our model records list 38 Citation models, 36 motorboats and two larger boats recorded as motor yachts, the 260 Lazer and the 270 CC Aft. Build years run from 1979 to 2003, with nearly all numbered models built between 1981 and 1992; only the Marlin and the Striper CC stayed in the range into the early 2000s. Lengths run from 5 to 8.2 metres, half of them between 5.7 and 6.2 metres. Several hulls appear in up to five versions, the 210 for instance as CC Cuddy, Laser, Lazer, XL and XLS.
A Citation today is a boat of thirty to forty years. Hulls from that period often still have wood in the transom and stringers, so a survey of those areas says more about the boat than its model name, and many of them now run with an engine much younger than the hull.

For the Marlin and Striper CC by Citation Boats Inc.
series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Catalina, Capri, Citation 175 XL by Citation Boats Inc.
and 33 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Marlin, Striper CC, Catalina by Citation Boats Inc.
and further series: On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Citation 260 Lazer, Citation 270 CC Aft by Citation Boats Inc.
series: On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
