Coaster Marine AS is a Norwegian name for sporty motorboats made for skerries, fjords and open coast. The Norwegian boating press has described the Coaster 22 as a family day cruiser with a clear sporting streak. The DC version sits on the same hull as the 22 Sport, a sharp deep V with 23 degrees of deadrise. A hull like that asks for power before it climbs onto the plane, but once it gets there it cuts calmly through the chop. The tested DC had a small galley unit behind the helm seat with sink, cool box and a 50 litre fresh water tank, and room for seven people. The test boat ran on an outboard.

Above it come two versions of the 22 class: the C 22 Sportster at 6.4 metres, built from 2002 to 2017, and the C 22 DC at 6.5 metres, again from 2003 to 2018. Coasters are used hard in short Nordic summers, so a used one deserves a careful look. On a deep V hull, check the keel line and the chines for chips and gelcoat cracks from rocky landings and beaching. Look at the transom around the outboard bracket, since that is where the forces of a powerful engine go into the hull. Ask for the service history of the outboard and check the steering for play. Fresh water systems and cool boxes should be drained before frost. A boat that has lived on its own trailer often has a drier, healthier hull than one left afloat all season.
