Dekabo; cover, cost and conditions
Dekabo is a Dutch name from fibreglass boatbuilding between the sixties and the nineties. According to the sources we found, Dekabo laid up the hulls of the Kievit sailing boats, which were then fitted out at Van der Rest Nautic in Kats, in the province of Zeeland; Piewiet is that yard's own line. Both ranges are listed under Dekabo in our data. Kievit and Piewiet are both Dutch names for the lapwing, and on most models the number gives the length in centimetres.
Our records hold 16 entries under Dekabo: eleven sailing yachts, four sailing boats and one motorboat. Nine belong to the Piewiet range: 700, 820, two versions of the 850 with different lengths and build years, 930, 1000, 1050, 1100 and 1200. Six carry the Kievit name: the original Kievit plus the 680, 700, 820, 930 and 1050. The only motorboat is the Trident 700, built from 1968 to 1977. Build years run from 1965 to 1997, and the Kievit lines end by 1983. Lengths run from 6.78 metres (Kievit) to 12.3 metres (Piewiet 1200).
Every boat of this name is now decades old, and many have been restored with care. The small seven metre models are easy to tow and suit lakes and the Zeeland estuaries, while the larger Piewiets are coastal cruisers. Old fibreglass decks deserve a check for soft spots, and original rigging should be replaced once its age is unknown.
