Worth knowing
Fricke & Dannhus; cover, cost and conditions
A German yard for cruising yachts with two recorded model ranges: Deceptor 350 and 400 from 1990 to 2015, plus the HR 41 and 44 from 1985 to 2005. The Deceptor range was created in cooperation with Hallberg-Rassy. Cruising yachts are out for longer and travel further, which is why cover begins with third-party liability.
Ten to fourteen metres of length mean mass in a harbour manoeuvre. Third-party liability comes first with a limit of indemnity of 10 to 50 million euros, graded across the Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium levels. We issue the international certificate of insurance automatically in ten languages, in the form required abroad.
An HD20 belongs to our own portfolio. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, and races with a scoring status you state when taking out the policy. The full hull cover works with an agreed value and pays with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit, which counts for the early HR build years.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Which limit of indemnity suits a cruising yacht of ten to fourteen metres?
Third-party liability is available with 10 to 50 million euros, graded across Basis, Basis-Plus and Premium. At this length and for trips abroad, the need lies in the upper part of the scale.
Are races run by the sailing club covered as well?
Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards. Races with a scoring status you report when taking out the policy, and the cover is then matched to them. For a Deceptor 400 this applies just as it does for an HR 44.

Series by Fricke & Dannhus, with value and cover
Deceptor 350 / 400 is a sailing yacht from Fricke & Dannhus (Germany), built from 1990 to 2015, and today changes hands at between €110,000 and €290,000.
HR 41 / 44 (F&D) is a sailing yacht from Fricke & Dannhus (Germany), built from 1985 to 2005, and today changes hands at between €90,000 and €220,000.
For a series built in these years the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely. An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts: a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat, and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
