Worth knowing
Dinamica Yachts; cover, cost and conditions
Dinamica Yachts hails from Lake Garda. The German entrepreneur Rolf Schlaefer set the project in motion, and the RS 940 was drawn by Claudio Maletto, a multiple world champion who served as technical director of the Luna Rossa America's Cup team. The boat made its debut at Interboot in Friedrichshafen in 2010. It was conceived as a pure daysailer in GRP with an uncluttered deck. Three things give it away at once: a rig with no backstay, which allows a generous mainsail with a square head, an extendable carbon bowsprit and a self-tacking jib. Below the waterline sits a deep T-keel drawing 2.10 metres for plenty of righting moment.
Our model records hold a single Dinamica design, the RS 940 sailing yacht at 9.4 metres. Build years run from 2008 to 2019, so the line does not reach the most recent years. The sailing press quoted 9.40 metres overall and 8.20 metres on the waterline at the launch. Our records know of no other line from the brand and no second size. Anyone looking for an RS 940 today will be shopping on the used market, for a boat somewhere between seven and nearly twenty years old.
A boat built around a powerful sail plan rewards regular attention to the rig. Without a backstay, the shrouds and their chainplates carry more of the load, so they deserve a close look before every season. The carbon bowsprit should run smoothly in and out, and its fittings should show no cracks. With 2.10 metres of draft, the T-keel will find the bottom quickly in shallow water, so a used boat should be checked for repaired keel joints and the condition of the bolts. Most owners use the RS 940 for fast afternoon sails and club racing rather than long passages.

For the Dinamica RS 940 by Dinamica Yachts series:
