The EWA yard stood on Lake Constance and made its name in the 1960s with sporty wooden motorboats that broke new ground for their day. Its signature boat is the Hummel. It was always built with an inboard engine and sold only as a finished boat from the yard, never as a bare hull to complete at home. Several versions existed: Hummel Sport, Hummel Family, Hummel Super Sport and Hummel Spezial. A Hummel with hardtop from 1964 measures seven metres by 2.5 metres and seats up to seven people. Anyone running an EWA today is looking after a wooden classic with more than half a century behind it.

Our model records list four EWA designs, three motorboats and one motor yacht, all built between 1965 and 1973. The Hummel line is represented by the Hummel Sport and the Hummel Family, both six metres long. The Holiday line is larger: the Holiday Voyager measures 6.5 metres, and the Holiday Weekend, filed as a motor yacht, reaches 8.5 metres and is the largest boat in the range. The Super Sport and Spezial versions have no separate entries in our data, and the 1964 Hummel from the source predates the first build year on our list by one year. No design reaches into recent build years; production ends in our records in 1973.

Wood rewards owners who stay ahead of it. On a used Hummel the first questions concern planking and frames: soft spots near the transom, around the engine bed and under fittings tell of fresh water getting in. Varnish that has cracked lets moisture into the grain, so the state of the finish matters more than its shine. The original inboard may have been replaced over the decades, and records of any rebuild are worth having. A boat that has stood dry for years needs time to take up after launching, so a few days of swelling before the first run are normal. Lake Constance borders three countries, and many classics of this age spend their summers moving between vintage boat meetings around the shore.
