Force Engineering; cover, cost and conditions
Force Engineering was a small, technically minded company in Florida, set up in the late seventies with one boat in mind: the Stiletto catamaran. The design came from Bill Higgins and Don Ansley, and the first boats were built in 1976 under the Stiletto Catamarans name, a division of Force Engineering. What set the boat apart was a method borrowed from aviation. Instead of the balsa or foam cores most yards were using at the time, the hulls were laid up in pre-impregnated glass cloth and epoxy over a Nomex honeycomb core, which kept the ratio of resin to fibre exact. In 1983 two of the company's engineers, the brothers Ron and Andy Nicol, bought the brand and kept building new boats until 1986. The range later grew with the Stiletto 30 and the Stiletto 23, both drawn by Peter Wormwood. A Stiletto is easy to recognise by its slender twin hulls, often described as a beach catamaran that has grown up.
Our model records hold a single line from the company: the Stiletto, a cabin catamaran 8.2 metres long, listed with build years from 1976 to 1988. The newest boat in that span is now close to forty years old and the oldest about half a century. The later Stiletto 23 and Stiletto 30 are not part of our records. Despite its racing roots, the Stiletto carries berths in both hulls along with a small galley and a head, so it suits club racing and short cruises alike. With a beam of a little over four metres, it needs noticeably more room in a marina than a monohull of similar length.
Because the hulls rely on a honeycomb core, a thorough survey matters more than usual on a used Stiletto. Look for soft spots, delamination around fittings and older repairs where water could have reached the core. Check the crossbeams and their attachment points, the trampoline, the rudders and the mast step, since these take the loads on a quick multihull. An active owners' group keeps the boats in use: some still race them in club fleets, others take them out for day sails and weekends in sheltered bays, along protected coasts and on large lakes. Spare parts and refit help remain available from Stiletto Catamarans, the business the Nicol brothers kept running after production ended.

Series by Force Engineering, build years and cover
Stiletto is a cabin catamaran from Force Engineering, built from 1976 to 1988.
For the Stiletto by Force Engineering series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Stiletto by Force Engineering series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
