Gladius Boats is a maker of small motor boats sold mainly through Russian speaking dealers. According to those dealers, Gladius builds in both glass reinforced plastic and aluminium, aiming at leisure use, water sports, hunting and fishing on large inland waters. The Balttica line is the brand's aluminium range. Two naming habits make the boats easy to place: Balttica and Glide models carry three digit numbers that roughly give the length in centimetres, while the other lines use names such as Moonray, Sea Wind, Raven, Hunter or Swan.
Our model records list 29 Gladius models: 26 motor boats and three rigid inflatables in the Kalmar series. Recorded build years run from 2006 to 2021, and none of the models continues into current production. Lengths range from 4.5 to 8 metres, with half of the models between 5.3 and 6.7 metres. The Balttica series starts with the Balttica 450 at 4.5 metres and ends with the Balttica WA at 8 metres, the Glide 460 comes in three versions of 4.7 metres each, the Sea Wind 520 measures about 5.2 metres and the Moonray 190 5.8 metres. The Kalmar AT 61 and AT 65 RIBs sit between 7 and 7.4 metres.
These are trailer boats in the truest sense: launched from a ramp, used on lakes and rivers, and towed home again. With production ended in 2021, every boat on the market is second hand, so condition, hull material and the outboard fitted decide most of the value. An aluminium hull shrugs off knocks that would crack gelcoat, while a well kept fibreglass cabin boat holds its appeal through a tidy interior.
