Lekker Boats is a Dutch yard, and the name gives it away: lekker is the everyday Dutch word for nice or pleasant. The idea behind the boats came from Meindert Wolfraad, who wanted to give the classic Dutch sloep, the relaxed double-ended launch familiar from canals and lakes, the punch of a sports boat. The result was the Damsko. The hulls are aluminium; an Australian boat test names 5 mm plate in 5083 alloy and the Bloemsma aluminium yard in the Netherlands as the place of build, where hulls are welded and painted by hand. A Damsko is recognised by its sloep lines with a pointed stern, the open self-draining deck laid out for a crowd, and engines that take it far beyond normal sloep pace.
Our model records list two designs, both classed as motorboats: the Lekker Damsko 750 at 7.5 metres from build year 2014 and the Lekker Damsko 1000 at 10 metres from build year 2015. Both lines reach into the most recent build years, and the number in each name matches the length in centimetres. For the Damsko 1000 the trade press quotes a diesel of up to 370 hp or a petrol sterndrive of up to 430 hp, with speeds around 40 knots. The smaller Damsko 750 is laid out for big groups; the Australian test gives 23 people in sheltered water. The yard has since added the larger LEKKER 38 and LEKKER 44, which our records do not yet list.
Aluminium is tough and light, but it needs the right care. Keep an eye on the anodes and make sure no copper-based antifouling or stray stainless fittings sit directly on the hull, because galvanic corrosion is the classic weak point of any aluminium boat. Shore power wiring deserves a check for the same reason. A Damsko is usually a social boat, used for long afternoons with friends on lakes, canals and sheltered coasts, so cushions, bimini and sound system take more wear than the hull. On a used boat, look at engine hours and service records, the sterndrive bellows on petrol versions, and the welds around cleats and bollards, which take the strain when mooring.
