Lerouge; cover, cost and conditions
Behind this name stands a French designer: Erik Lerouge, who has been drawing multihulls since 1976 and has reached several hundred designs, the great majority of them catamarans. His boats are laid out for long distances and drawn so that windage stays low despite the great overall beam: flat superstructures, slender hulls and a sail plan that is powerful but manageable. You recognise them by the widely spaced very narrow hulls, the sparing bridgedeck and the straight sober lines without ornament.
Our model records list 46 Lerouge designs: 37 cabin sailing catamarans, six open sailing catamarans, two sailing yachts and one sailing trimaran. Recorded build years run from 1991 to 2019. Forty six series are recorded: the Eldir range with the cruisers 92, 100, 105, 115, 120, 122, 134, 140 and 148 and the 119 Open Deck; the Galaxy range with 152, 190 and 1370; the Pulsar 850 trimaran; and single designs such as the Haro 18-2, the Haro 20 and the Cite d Alet R. The number gives the length in decimetres, so an Eldir 115 measures around 11.5 metres. Lengths run from 5.3 to 20 metres, half the designs between 8 and 13.4 metres.
Keeping windage low on a wide boat is a harder problem than it sounds. A catamaran presents two hulls and a bridgedeck to the wind at anchor, and everything added above that deck makes the boat sail sideways on its mooring. The flat superstructures on these designs are the answer to that, and they are the most visible thing about them.

For the Pulsar 850, Eldir 92 Kreuzer,
Eldir 100 Kreuzer by Lerouge and 39 more series the market value and the replacement cost often
differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Eureka 97, La Bombe, Pulsar 26 by Lerouge and 1 more series there is no list price left.
That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the Pulsar 850 by Lerouge series: On a trimaran the floats and their beams are the weak point,
on folding models the mechanism as well.
For the Eldir 92 Kreuzer, Eldir 100 Kreuzer, Eldir 105 Kreuzer by Lerouge and further series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For the Haro 18-2, Haro 20, Haro 22 (Texel) by Lerouge and further series:
Open catamarans are beached and trailed, so most damage happens ashore and in transit,
not on the water.
For the Eureka 97, La Bombe by Lerouge series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
