Motomarine was based in Koropi, in eastern Attica. Aristotelis Zeis founded the business in 1962 as Lambro Boats. The yard built pleasure boats alongside coastal patrol craft, served for many years as the main supplier to the Greek Coast Guard and exported to a number of countries. Rigid inflatables of the Magna family are used by the amphibious special forces of the Hellenic Army. Motomarine stopped trading in 2016, and Riginos Yachts of Glyfada, which builds pleasure yachts under the Onda name, took over its facilities and designs.
Our model records list 15 designs, eight RIBs and seven motor yachts. The RIBs run from the Trident 640 at 6.4 metres through the Superonda 820, Bluewater 27 C, Invader 960, Magna 32 and Magna 35 C Lightning to the Hurricane 110 and the Hellraiser 44 at 13.3 metres. Among the yachts the Lynx 122 and Puma 145 come first, followed by the Guardian 53, the Panther 57 in MKI and MKII form and the Javelin 74 at 19.2 metres. At the top sits the Protector 29 at 30.85 metres. The Magna 32 appears from 2013, the Bluewater 27 C, Magna 35 C Lightning and Superonda 820 from 2016 and the other eleven from 2017. All 15 entries run into the most recent build years in our records, while the source dates the end of Motomarine itself to 2016, a year worth keeping in mind when dating a used boat.
A RIB built for patrol work and fast transit lives a hard life, and a used one shows it. The tubes come first: seams, glued patches, the bond between tube and hull and any soft spot that loses pressure overnight. The rigid hull underneath takes a beating at speed, so look for cracks along the keel line, at the transom and around the console mountings. Many of these boats run in the Aegean sun, and UV is hard on tube fabric, upholstery and wiring. On the larger yachts from the Lynx 122 upwards, engine hours, service records and the state of shafts or drives tell more than the gelcoat. With the original yard gone, it helps to know who has serviced the boat and where spares come from.
