Munson Boats is a family yard in Burlington, Washington, trading as the William E. Munson Company and on the US Coast Guard manufacturer register since 1994. It builds in welded aluminium: fast landing craft with a bow ramp, fire and rescue boats, research boats and workboats, every one to order, from 23 foot utility boats to 65 foot landing craft. A third of the boats go to government users, a third to commercial operators and a third to private owners. The angular wheelhouse and the ramp at the bow make a Munson easy to pick out.

Our model records list 19 Munson designs, all named ft Series after their length in feet: 19, 21, 23, 24, 25, 26, 28, 30, 32, 34, 35, 36, 38, 40, 44, 48, 52, 54 and 65. A Munson is built to go where others stop: the landing craft nose onto gravel beaches in the Pacific Northwest and lower the ramp. Bare aluminium shrugs off scrapes, but stainless fittings and stray current in a marina can start galvanic corrosion, so anodes need checking. The smaller hulls tow on a trailer, the big ones work from a berth.
