Worth knowing
Ockelbo; cover, cost and conditions
Ockelbo built GRP boats between 5 and 6.5 metres in Sweden from the seventies into the two thousands, simple console and cabin boats that are still out in numbers on Swedish lakes today. The brand is history, the boats are sailing. With boats that have no yard behind them, the agreed value is the instrument that counts: the depreciated value falls faster than the actual repair costs.
With old Swedish production boats the onboard electrics come in as a fire risk. Wiring looms from the eighties, extended over decades by an echo sounder, a cool box and a charger, are the most frequent cause of fire on leisure boats. Fire is already covered by limited hull cover; the more effective measure is an inspection by a specialist firm, especially if you took the boat over second hand and do not know the wiring.
