Ranieri International; cover, cost and conditions
Ranieri builds both console boats and cabin RIBs in Calabria. For insurance purposes these are two different craft: on a rigid inflatable the tube is a damage pattern of its own, with cuts, UV ageing and seam separation part of everyday life. Sudden damage is covered, ageing is not. A tube that becomes porous after fifteen years is wear and tear.
With the Cayman models from 28 feet upwards the values run into six figures, usually with two outboards. Here it is worth looking at the compensation: full hull cover with an agreed value pays that agreed value in the event of a total loss, with no deduction for depreciation (new for old). On boats whose engines together cost more than some hulls, that is the decisive difference between the tariffs.
Anyone anchoring in the Mediterranean should keep theft protection in mind. RIBs are stolen not only with the trailer but also out of the water. A tracker with its own power supply earns a ten percent discount on the hull insurance and, if the worst happens, the chance of seeing the boat again.
