MV Marine; cover, cost and conditions

MV Marine builds rigid inflatable boats at Striano in the province of Naples. The yard keeps the entire production cycle under its own roof: design, plugs, moulds, the glassfibre hulls, the rubber components and the upholstery are all made in house. By its own account it aims for sober, elegant lines, low weight and efficiency, and it adapts each model to the owner's wishes. Today the range falls into three series: the MV series with the smaller RIBs from the MV 18 Technology to the MV 800, the GT series in the middle and the Mito series for the big boats, topped by the Mito 45 in FB and EFB versions. The boats carry the letters MV in front of the model name.

Our model records list 17 designs, all of them RIBs, and 16 reach into the most recent build years. The MV 500 has the longest run, from 2003, and at 5.02 metres it is also the smallest. Most other designs start between 2014 and 2018. The MV series accounts for eight models from the MV 18 Technology to the MV 800, joined by the MV 25 GT and MV 27 GT, the MV Vesevus 35 in two versions and the Mito line with the Mito 29, 31, 40 and 45. The Mito 45 is the largest at 13.8 metres, while the Mito 40 measures 12.14 metres. Only the Vesuviana MV 18 Technology has ended, listed from 2008 to 2018. Twelve designs stay under eight metres.

On a used RIB the tubes come first. Check the seams and the bond between tube and hull, look for patches and porous areas, and ask how the boat has been stored over winter, since sunlight is hard on any tube fabric. Under the deck, the transom and the engine mounts deserve a close look on fast boats that have taken a pounding. Engine hours, service records and the condition of the steering and fuel lines tell the rest of the story. The larger Mito models add cabins and more onboard electrics, so treat them like small motor yachts with an inflatable collar and inspect them accordingly.
