NauticStar builds fibreglass sport boats in Mississippi. The works lie at Amory in the north east of the state and date from 2002. The range consists of three types less common in Europe: the bay boat, a shallow fishing boat for sheltered coastal water; the deck boat with its wide usable foredeck; and the centre console for more open water. You recognise them by the very low freeboard, the console standing amidships without a cabin and the rail running all the way round with its rod holders.
Our model records list 61 NauticStar models, all of them motorboats. Build years start in 2004 and run into current production. Sixty series are recorded: the SC models 193 and 203, the DC models 203, 223 and 243, the XTS range with 195, 215, 227 and 249, the Hybrid models 191, 211, 231 and 251, the XS range from 19 to 32 and the Legacy models 2102 and 2302. Lengths run from 5.5 to 9.8 metres, half the models between 6.2 and 6.9 metres. The three figure number gives the length in feet and tenths.
A bay boat is drawn to float in almost no water at all, which is the point of the type and also its main exposure: it spends its working life where the bottom is close. These are trailered boats too, so the ramp, the crane and the shed are part of their year, and the outboard on the transom carries a large share of the whole value.
