Nireus; cover, cost and conditions
Nireus Boats is a Greek yard from Patras in the Peloponnese. George Kranitis founded it in 1976, and it has stayed with small boats ever since. The hulls are built in fibreglass. A three digit number in the name roughly gives the length in centimetres, so a Nireus 490 is 4.9 metres long. The newer series is written with the Greek letter omega: Ω53 means 5.3 metres, followed by names like Adventure, Elegance or Escape.
Our model records list 24 Nireus models: 20 motorboats, two RIBs and two inflatables. Build years run from 2011 to 2027, and twelve models continue into current production. Lengths range from 2.5 to 7 metres, and half of them sit closely together between 4.9 and 5.3 metres. The three digit models run from the 430 through the 455, 460 and 465, the 490 in four versions and the 515 up to the 5.3 metre 530 as Open, Open Cabin and Fishing. The 53 series with Adventure, Elegance, Escape, Glass Bottom and Pleasure is 5.3 metres throughout. Above them come the 6.2 metre 620 CL, the 6.5 metre 650 Cabin RIB and the seven metre Nireus Twister, the longest model.
Nireus boats are made for Greek conditions: short hops between bays, swimming stops, fishing and island trips, and they also appear in rental fleets. Their value rests mainly on the outboard, its hours and service record, the gelcoat after years of sun, and extras such as a bimini, electronics or a glass bottom panel.
