Palamos Boatbuild worked out of Millbrook in Cornwall, in the south west of England. Richard Laight ran the yard and Richard Woods drew the boats. Its boat was the Banshee, a 35 foot catamaran meant to sail fast while still giving room for proper cruising; Yachting Monthly describes it as one of the few attempts by a British builder at a fast cruiser racer catamaran. A report in Multihulls Magazine from 1987 explains the hull: foam core in five different thicknesses above the waterline and solid glassfibre below it. A Banshee is easy to recognise by its daggerboards, whose trunks show inside the hulls, by the sloop rig with every line led to the cockpit, and by the 9.9 hp outboard fitted as standard, with an inboard as an option. Banshees have completed many long distance races.

Same name, same length: the records carry one boat under two labels. Neither runs into recent build years, so even the youngest hulls are now more than thirty years old. Below deck the review describes two large double cabins forward and a single cabin aft in each hull, plus a small dining area and a large chart table. The heads sit in one hull and the galley in the other, both with full standing headroom, while headroom under the bridgedeck is low.
A foam cored hull of this age asks for a careful survey. Moisture meters and a tap test around deck fittings, chainplates and the daggerboard trunks show whether water has reached the core. The boards themselves take knocks on the bottom and their trunks can crack where they meet the hull. Standing rigging older than a decade or so is usually due for renewal, and a sloop with every line led aft has plenty of blocks and clutches to check. Many Banshees have raced offshore, so it pays to ask for the history of the boat and to look at the bridgedeck for slamming damage.
