Phisa; cover, cost and conditions

Phisa is a catamaran yard in Canet-en-Roussillon on the French Mediterranean coast near Perpignan, a town that has grown into a centre of multihull building. The brand is known for the Phisa 42, drawn by the designer Christophe Barrault. It was built from modified moulds of the Catana 401, but longer and lighter than the original. The boat shows itself through lifting daggerboards in place of fixed keels, which bring the draught down from about 2.2 metres to around 0.8 metres. That lets it reach shallow anchorages where a keelboat cannot follow.

Our model records list one Phisa design, the Phisa 42 sailing catamaran at 12.79 metres, just under 12.8. The build years run from 2004 to 2016, so the entry stops short of recent years, and we hold no other lines from the yard. The number in the name gives the length in feet. At this size the Phisa 42 is a catamaran that carries a family or a crew over long distances, with cabins in both hulls and a saloon on the bridgedeck. Because of its link to the Catana 401, a look at both types helps when comparing boats.

Daggerboards are the part to check first on a used Phisa 42. Raise and lower both, look at the trunks for cracks and at the lifting lines and blocks for wear, and ask whether either board has ever hit the bottom. The bridgedeck underside shows how hard the boat has been sailed into a head sea. Rudders and their bearings, the engines and the crossbeam fittings deserve close attention too. A light, fast catamaran rewards reefing early, so a well marked reefing system and a sound mainsheet track are signs of a careful owner.

Series by Phisa, build years and cover

Phisa 42

Phisa 42 is a cabin catamaran from Phisa, built from 2004 to 2016.

What this means for the cover

For the Phisa 42 by Phisa series the market value and the replacement cost often differ widely.

An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.

For the Phisa 42 by Phisa series:

On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,

and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
