Pičuljan is a family name that stands for boatbuilding on the Croatian island of Rab. The family has built boats since 1936, first fishing vessels and craft for carrying passengers, later sports and leisure boats. The motor boats carry the island's name: RAB 720, 830, 880 and 980, topped by the RAB Eleven as flagship. Under the name Pičuljan Pro-Nautic, a fourth generation now sets the course for design and construction and has started a new line called Squama. Production has moved to the family's own halls at Mučići, above Rijeka on the mainland facing the Kvarner islands. The roots in working boats for the Adriatic remain part of the yard's story.

Our model records list five designs, all classed as motor yachts. The RAB 720 is the oldest, from 1995, and at 8.3 metres also the smallest. The RAB 830 at 9.6 metres and the RAB 880 at 10.1 metres follow in 2002, the RAB Eleven at 12.37 metres in 2004 and the RAB 980 at 10.84 metres in 2007. Only the RAB 880 has ended, in 2012; the other four lines run into the most recent build years. That means RAB 720s exist from three decades of production. Three of the five designs are longer than ten metres, and the RAB Eleven is the only one above twelve.

With a range this long-lived, a used RAB can be almost new or around thirty years old, and the checks differ accordingly. On older hulls the sterngear, engine beds and fuel tanks are the first places to look, together with the age of the engines and whether they have been replaced. Adriatic sun is hard on gelcoat, canopies and wooden trim, so their condition says a lot about how the boat was kept. Rocky shores and shallow island coves make the underwater hull and propellers worth inspecting out of the water. Boats bought in Croatia should come with clear registration papers and proof that VAT has been paid.
