Worth knowing
Plasto; cover, cost and conditions
With sailing boats from the 1970s and 1980s, the market value is often hard to pin down. The four RA model ranges from Plasto, Antares, Arguna, Cruiser and Pegasus, came about between 1970 and 1986. An agreed value fixes the insured value bindingly when the policy is taken out and puts an end to any later debate about current market value.
The RA Cruiser is already sailing in our own portfolio. We rate sailing boats and sailing yachts according to type of boat, value, year of construction, sail area and cruising range; the brand plays no part. We also insure a boat with several decades on the keel, regardless of place of purchase and previous owners.
In full hull cover we indemnify with no deduction for depreciation (new for old), in the Premium tariff with no age limit; limited hull cover covers fire, storm, lightning strike, theft of the entire boat and damage in winter storage. Club races are included from Basis-Plus upwards, should you take part in club races with the RA sailing boat.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
Is full hull cover still available for an RA Cruiser from the 1970s?
Yes, for Plasto too: In the Premium tariff, full hull cover knows no age limit.
The value is agreed as an agreed value and indemnified in the event of a claim with no deduction
for depreciation (new for old).
How do I set the agreed value for a rarely traded boat such as the RA Pegasus?
For Plasto: The basis is the replacement value.
We agree it bindingly as an agreed value when the policy is taken out;
the value is thus documented before a loss occurs.

RA - Cruiser is a sailing boat from Plasto, built from 1970 to 1986.

That is why we work with an agreed value: you state the figure, we agree it,
and in a total loss exactly that amount is paid, with no deduction for wear.
For the RA - Antares, RA - Pegasus by Plasto series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the RA - Arguna, RA - Cruiser by Plasto series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
