Worth knowing
Ostrada; cover, cost and conditions
When buying a used boat, the replacement value is the most important figure for the contract. The Atol model ranges from Ostrada were built between 1994 and 2007, since then the boats have changed owner as used boats. Set the sum insured at the current replacement value, because it is agreed as an agreed value.
Alongside motor boats such as the Atol 400 to Atol 550, the programme also included sailing boats with the Majestic sailing boats and the Fortuna 31 BM, 22 model ranges in total. An Atol 485 and an Atol 550 WA are already sailing in our own portfolio. The premium is based on type of boat, value, year of construction, engine output or sail area and cruising range.
In the event of a claim, full hull cover pays compensation with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old"), in the Premium tariff with no age limit. The cover applies with no time window and no night clause, also in winter storage, during craning, launching and on the transport route; a boat trailer is covered by the third-party liability at no extra premium from Basis-Plus, provided it is named in the application with its value. You can add it to the hull cover for a premium.
Questions and answers
Frequent questions
What should I base the sum insured for a used Atol on?
For Ostrada: On the current replacement value, not on the earlier new price.
The sum is agreed as an agreed value and, in the case of a total loss,
is replaced with no deduction for depreciation ("new for old").
An Atol 485 and an Atol 550 WA are already sailing in our portfolio.
Do different rules apply to the Majestic sailing boats than to the Atol motor boats?
For Ostrada: The principle is the same, only the factors differ:
with a sailing boat the sail area goes into the premium, with a motor boat the engine output,
in each case together with value, year of construction and cruising range.

For the Atol 550, Atol 400 Open, Atol 440 by Ostrada and further series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Fortuna 31 BM by Ostrada series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Majestic 20 Joy, Majestic 24 Weekend, Atol 310 by Ostrada series:
On boats this size the condition of rig and fittings decides.
A dismasting is covered, worn terminals after years are not.
