Profilmarine, often written Profil Marine, is an Italian yard from Origgio near Varese. It was founded by Alberto Mercati, a designer who had earlier worked with Carlo Riva and Olin Stephens among others. The yard built fast open boats in fibreglass under the Cherokee name. The range ran from 35 to 80 feet and stayed in production from the seventies until 2006. A Cherokee is recognisable by its open layout with a large cockpit and a hull drawn for planing speed, very much in the Italian sports yacht style of those decades.
Our model records hold one design: the MB 50 Cherokee, a motor yacht of 15 metres listed for build years 1979 to 1987. The entry does not reach recent build years. Brokerage listings give a beam of about 4.20 metres, a GRP hull and planing performance. The Cherokee 50 therefore sits in the middle of a range that ran from 35 to 80 feet; other sizes such as the Cherokee 35 or 60 do not appear in our records. Even the youngest MB 50 Cherokee in our data is close to forty years old, and most boats on the market today are in the western Mediterranean.
A fast open boat of this age needs a buyer who looks below the waterline and into the engine room.
