Raffaelli Costruzioni Nautiche is an Italian yard founded by Renato Raffaelli in 1962. It began with wooden pleasure boats and later moved to fibreglass. The Typhoon family made its name, with the Typhoon Day, Typhoon Fly and Supertyphoon, followed by models such as the Storm, Mistral, Maestrale, Levante and Shamal. That is the easiest way to spot a Raffaelli: many of them are named after a wind, and the Compass Rose takes its name from the wind rose. They are sporty Italian motor yachts, from open hardtops to flybridge models.

Our model records list 18 Raffaelli motor yachts. The Typhoon Fly has the earliest build year, 1976, followed by the Shamal from 1979, and seven lines are recorded up to 2021 or 2022, among them the Calima 47, Kubang 57, Shamal 40 and Meltemi 65. Several names return in new generations: three models are called Compass Rose, and two each carry the names Ontera, Typhoon, Shamal and Nashi. Lengths run from 11.3 metres (Shamal) to 21.4 metres (Ontera 70), with four models longer than 19 metres.

Raffaelli owners span almost five decades of boatbuilding. An older Typhoon wants an eye on its wiring, deck fittings and engines, while the newer Ontera and Meltemi models are full marina yachts with modern systems. Most spend the season on a Mediterranean berth and the winter ashore, and a yard visit each spring for antifouling and running gear keeps them ready for fast coastal hops.
