S2 Yachts is based in Holland, Michigan, and was founded in 1974 by Leon Slikkers. He had started at Chris-Craft in 1946 at the age of eighteen, went on to build up the powerboat company Slickcraft and sold it to AMF in 1969. The sale barred him from building powerboats again for some years but said nothing about sail, so he set up a sailboat company in a newly built plant. From 1974 until 1989 it produced fibreglass sailing boats, drawn by Arthur Edmunds and by the firm of Graham & Schlageter, who handled the racier designs. In 1986 Slikkers bought back the Tiara name and returned to power, and sail production stopped in 1989.

Two are listed as sailing boats, the S2 6.8 at 6.8 metres and the S2 7.3 at 7.26 metres, and three as sailing yachts: the S2 8.0 at 7.92 metres, the S2 9.2 at 9.02 metres and the S2 11.0 A at 11 metres. All five start in 1976. Four end in 1983 or 1984, while the S2 11.0 A, the largest, runs until 1990. None reaches recent build years, so any S2 today is a used boat with more than three decades behind it.
With boats of this age the hull and deck tell most of the story. Look for soft spots in a cored deck around stanchions and fittings, check the keel bolts and the hull to keel joint, and inspect chainplates where they pass through the deck. Original standing rigging is long past its useful life on most examples. The smaller S2 6.8 and 7.3 were often trailed and sailed on lakes, which tends to be kind to the hull, while the 11.0 A was built as a cruiser for longer passages. A survey is the sensible starting point.
