Saare Paat AS; cover, cost and conditions
Saare Paat AS builds yachts on Saaremaa, the large Estonian island in the Baltic, and sells them as Saare Yachts. The yard started in 1991 moulding GRP hulls for the Finnish brand Finngulf and went on to build complete boats for it before launching its own range. Its reputation rests on cruising sailboats such as the Saare 41, a centre-cockpit design by Karl-Johan Stråhlmann, and it also built the classic-looking Stormer motorboats in GRP. The sailing models carry the Saare name with a number close to their length in feet.
Our records show twelve Saare Paat models: nine sailing yachts, one motorboat, one motor yacht and one motor catamaran. The sailboats are the Saare 38, 38.2, 41, 41 AC, 41 cc2, 41.2, 46, 46 cc and 47, from 11.4 metres (38 and 38.2) to 14.8 metres (the 47, recorded from 2023). The Saare 41 is the earliest of them, from 2006, and seven sailboats reach the most recent build years. The powerboats are older: the 4.7 metre Saare 470 (2000 to 2008), the 7.51 metre Stormer 7 (2001 to 2018) and the 7.47 metre Stormer 7 WA catamaran (2005 to 2012).
A Saare is built for long passages, and that is how most owners use it: weeks along the Finnish and Swedish archipelagos or across the Baltic. A centre cockpit keeps the crew dry and protected, and the aft cabin makes extended stays aboard comfortable. Rocky skerries call for good charts and a careful eye on the depth sounder, and a winter ashore in a shed keeps the teak and gelcoat in good shape.

As the Saare 38, Saare 38.2, Saare 41 AC by Saare Paat AS and 4 more series are still in
production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Saare 41, Saare 46, Stormer 7 by Saare Paat AS and 2 more series the market value and the
replacement cost often differ widely.
An agreed value removes the age-based scale, and the figure in the policy stands.
For the Saare 38, Saare 38.2, Saare 41 AC by Saare Paat AS and further series:
On sailing yachts the rig and the underwater hull are the expensive parts:
a dismasting quickly costs a quarter of the boat,
and osmosis counts as wear and is covered by no hull policy.
For the Stormer 7 by Saare Paat AS series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
For the Stormer 7 WA by Saare Paat AS series:
On catamarans the bridgedeck between the hulls is the sensitive part,
and the berth belongs in the application: double width often means a mooring rather than a marina.
For the Saare 470 by Saare Paat AS series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
