Worth knowing
Scarab; cover, cost and conditions
Jet boats of this brand run without a propeller, and that changes the pattern of damage compared with boats with a shaft. Three ranges from 5 to 9 metres are recorded: the 165 as a jet boat from 2013, the 195 and 255 from 2015 and the 285 and 302 from 2018, all still in production today.
Boats of this size move frequently between trailer, launching ramp and berth. The boat trailer is covered by the third-party liability at no extra premium from Basis-Plus, provided it is named in the application with its value, and cover applies during launching, during craning, in transit and in winter storage. You can add it to the hull cover for a premium. There is no time window for this.
Grounding and collision are covered by full hull cover, as are vandalism and theft of parts including the outboard. The premium is based on the type of boat, value, year of construction, engine power and cruising range, never on the brand. Up to a sum insured of 2.5 million euros you take out the policy online.

and today changes hands at between €55,000 and €150,000.
Scarab 165 (jet boat) is a motorboat from Scarab (the USA), built since 2013,
and today changes hands at between €25,000 and €95,000.
Scarab 285 / 302 is a motor yacht from Scarab (the USA), built since 2018,
and today changes hands at between €90,000 and €220,000.
As the Scarab 195 / 255, Scarab 165 (jet boat) and Scarab 285 / 302 by Scarab series are still in
production, parts are available and repair costs are predictable.
Even so, value it at replacement cost including retrofitted electronics, not at list price.
For the Scarab 195 / 255, Scarab 165 (jet boat) by Scarab series:
On a motorboat the drive is the single most valuable part.
Damage after grounding is covered, an engine failure from wear is not.
For the Scarab 285 / 302 by Scarab series:
On motor yachts the drive and the electronics together make up about half the value.
Both belong in the valuation, otherwise the sum insured is too low.
