SeaStorm Boats; cover, cost and conditions
SeaStorm boats come from Estonia. Ceranos Invest OÜ designs and builds them, and most are sold in Sweden, Norway and the rest of the Nordic countries. The yard works by rotational moulding, which means each hull is made in a single piece of high-density polyethylene, or HDPE, with a UV stabiliser in the mix. The material shrugs off knocks, is quiet in the water and needs very little upkeep. The boats have a double hull shell, drain themselves and are designed to plane easily, with deck and hull firmly joined. You can spot them by the seamless one-piece plastic shell and by the Advantage fit-out with steering console, wheel, windscreen and a bench with backrest.
Our model records list three designs, all classed as motorboats. The Sea Storm 12 measures 3.66 metres and is listed from 2021; the maker gives a beam of 1.67 metres, a weight of about 200 kilograms, room for four and an engine of around 20 hp. The Seastorm 14, at 4.28 metres, joined our records in 2023 and seats five. The largest is the Sea Storm 17 Advantage at 5.18 metres, also from 2021, with a 1.97 metre beam, 380 kilograms, six seats, a recommended 60 hp and CE category C. All three run into the most recent build years. The two spellings, Sea Storm and Seastorm, appear that way in the records.
Polyethylene is forgiving, but it is not like glassfibre. Scrapes on rocks or slipways leave marks rather than cracks, and they cannot simply be filled and polished; deep gouges are repaired by plastic welding, which is a job for someone with the right kit. Rinsing the boat after salt water and keeping it out of strong sun when not in use helps the finish last. On a used SeaStorm, check the transom area around the engine bracket, the fixings of console and seats, the drain plugs and the trailer rollers, which should support the hull evenly along its length.
