Solombala; cover, cost and conditions
In our records Solombala is the maker of the SOL range, a family of sailing dinghies, sailing yachts and one motorboat from the 1990s. We found no company history we could rely on, so this page is built from the model data alone. The boats carry the SOL prefix and a number that, on the small models, roughly matches the length in centimetres: the SOL 280 measures 2.8 metres. The two yachts break that rule, the SOL 861 being almost 11 metres long.
Seven Solombala entries sit in our records, all built between 1990 and 1997. Four are sailing boats: the SOL 280 at 2.8 metres, the SOL 450 and SOL 460 at 4.55 metres each and the SOL 600 at 6.1 metres. The SOL 460 also appears as a 4.62 metre motorboat. Two sailing yachts complete the list, the SOL 861 at 10.95 metres and the SOL 1350, the largest model at 13.54 metres. Five of the seven entries stay under 6.2 metres.
The small SOL boats are trailer and beach boats, rigged in minutes and stored in a garage over winter. The SOL 861 and SOL 1350 belong in a marina and suit coastal passages and longer cruises. At around thirty years old, chainplates, standing rigging and deck fittings on the larger yachts merit a close inspection before a season.
